Sustainability & Responsibility

Every journey aims to leave Sri Lanka's landscapes and communities better than it found them

Our Sustainability Philosophy

Shans Lanka Travels believes that tourism operators bear a direct responsibility for the long-term health of the destinations they commercialise. This conviction, held by founder Madhushan Sandaruwan since the company's founding in 2020, shapes a responsible tourism approach applied across every itinerary rather than treated as a marketing layer.

Since 2020, this commitment has been structured across concrete initiatives: eco-friendly travel experiences such as wildlife safaris, nature trails and eco-lodges, fuel-efficient transportation and plastic-free efforts, ethical wildlife tourism, and direct support for local communities, artisans and guides.

People at the Heart

Community Economic Empowerment

Local Employment & Direct Founder Oversight

Shans Lanka Travels creates direct employment for local guides and drivers, with fair compensation for cultural performances and demonstrations. This channels tourism revenue directly into the communities our guests visit — local guiding and hospitality professionals — rather than concentrating it in a distant head office.

The company sources services and supplies from Sri Lankan businesses wherever possible, supporting local farmers, artisans, and small businesses across every itinerary — the same local-first principle our founder applies to vetting every driver, guide, and supplier relationship.
